Seeking patient care?
A Message From the Vice Chair for Research
Greetings and welcome to the Department of Medicine's Research homepage. Our department is dedicated to fostering a dynamic environment for innovation in basic, clinical, and translational research. Here, a diverse community of trainees, fellows, junior faculty researchers, and seasoned investigators collaboratively strive to make groundbreaking discoveries that will shape the future of medicine.
Proudly leading the Miller School of Medicine in NIH grants, our department has consistently increased both the number and diversity of grants awarded to our faculty. These grants encompass various categories, including training grants such as K awards and T32 grants supporting clinical and postdoctoral fellows pursuing careers in academic medicine. Additionally, we conduct the largest number of clinical trials in the medical school, contributing to the improvement of patient care both today and in the future.
Facilitating the pursuit of innovative research, our Internal Medicine Research Advisory Committee brings together exceptional researchers from diverse disciplines. This committee plays a crucial role in guiding the department's research direction, evaluating grant and award applications, and spearheading new research initiatives.
Our dedicated research office staff is instrumental in supporting investigators by facilitating the submission of grants and proposals. We actively seek creative ways to assist researchers in obtaining the necessary support for their groundbreaking work, ensuring a seamless process from proposal submission to post-award management.
An annual highlight for us is the Eugene Sayfie Research Day, typically held in the spring. This event features an internationally recognized visiting professor who engages in medical grand rounds. Workshops are organized to provide our junior faculty and trainees with the tools essential for successful research careers. The day concludes with a poster session and awards ceremony, where outstanding contributions are recognized, including excellence in membership among our faculty.
Committed to advancing innovative research throughout the translational spectrum, from population studies to molecular interactions in cells, our department aims to generate new knowledge about diseases and their treatment. This not only advances scientific understanding but also enhances care within the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
I invite you to learn more about how our research in the Department of Medicine makes a difference in medicine and encourage you to explore the many research projects and outstanding research groups in our department.
Welcome to our research community!
