Welcome to the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM), the core of internal medicine and all of its subspecialties. We are a highly diverse multi-talented group of nearly 40 faculty members with a wide range of clinical, research and educational interests.
GIM faculty deliver high-quality, cost-effective health care to our local community as well as nationally and globally. We provide world-class patient centered care to persons with a wide spectrum of diseases and medical conditions. In addition, a major focus of our clinical care is on health maintenance with a commitment to the prevention and delay in onset of serious illnesses as well as avoidance of long-term complications.
Sustaining this clinical mission for future generations, GIM faculty also serve as local and national leaders in medical education and in training the next generation of talented, compassionate and caring physicians. Many of our faculty are influential leaders in both graduate and undergraduate programs. They have also received numerous awards for teaching excellence, locally, regionally, and nationally. Among important educational initiatives where GIM faculty play lead roles are UM’s MD/MPH program the largest 4 year program in the nation.
Complimenting our important clinical and educational missions, GIM faculty also conduct high caliber innovative impactful primary care research. We contribute to the UM research enterprise in areas such as medical ethics, medical education, health services research, minority health and health policy research.
