Digestive Health and Liver Diseases

Department of Medicine

Message from the Chief

Paul Martin, M.D.Welcome to the Division of Digestive Health & Liver Diseases at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Our goals are to provide quality patient care, conduct cutting-edge clinical and basic research in disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, liver disease, and educate the next generation of gastroenterologists and hepatologists in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients with gastrointestinal disorders and liver diseases.  We offer care and expertise in all adult digestive and liver diseases by providing a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to manage the most complex problems.

As a key component of the Miami Transplant Institute, we provide care for patients with advanced liver disease before and after liver transplant. Our division is also a referral source for patients with liver tumors, which we manage in collaboration with specialists in other departments including radiology, oncology, and surgery.

We are innovators in clinical research helping to develop new treatments and diagnostic tools for digestive liver diseases. We offer training in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. The division’s nationally and internationally recognized faculty also serve as attending physicians at UHealth Tower, and satellite locations in Kendall, Coral Gables, and Plantation. Faculty members in the division also have a wide range of special research interests including esophageal disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis), gastrointestinal cancer, motility disorders, pancreatic disorders, as well as advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.

Our mission is to provide advanced patient care today, discover future treatments, and educate tomorrow’s leaders in digestive health.

Sincerely,

Paul Martin, M.D.
