Clinical Training Overview
Clinical training involves inpatient consultations and outpatient clinics at Jackson Memorial Hospital, the Miami Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics. Teaching is provided through a variety of clinical activities and several weekly conferences.
The University of Miami medical complex is one of the nation’s largest medical centers, providing care to a large number of indigent and referral patients. Time is set aside in the fellowship for elective rotations in various subspecialty clinics at affiliated hospitals and in the private offices of practicing endocrinologists in the community who are adjunct faculty of the university. Rotations can be arranged in the gestational diabetes and high‐risk pregnancy clinics (obstetrics), the diabetic foot clinic (orthopedics and rehabilitation), the Diabetes Diagnostic and Treatment Center, the lipid disorders clinic, and the retinopathy clinic (Bascom Palmer Eye Institute), and experiences are available in pediatric and adolescent endocrinology, reproductive endocrinology, and nuclear medicine.
