Seeking patient care?
Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Training Program
The Division of Hematology, maintains a Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Training Program based at the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Jackson Memorial Hospital which prepares trainees to become academically oriented physicians and leaders in clinical teaching, clinical and /or laboratory research in hematology/oncology. An integrated Fellowship Training Program leads to eligibility for Hematology and/or Medical Oncology Board certification following three years of training. Our highly competitive selective process allows selection of highly qualified fellows from a large applicant pool from outstanding programs to participate in fellowship training at the University of Miami.
Specialized training is available within the division in areas such as lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma and plasma cell disorders, stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy, experimental therapeutics, phase I/II clinical trials, and sarcoma. Clinical rotations offer a broad exposure to hematologic and oncologic diseases in in-patient and out-patient settings at the NCI-designated Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Miami Hospital, and Jackson Memorial Hospital. Fellows with an interest in becoming physician scientists may emphasize laboratory training with outstanding faculty within the Divisions of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, as well as numerous faculty outside the Divisions that are affiliated with ongoing basic, translational, epidemiologic, cancer control and clinical research efforts in the NCI- designated Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Fellows routinely present abstracts at American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and AACR meetings, and publish in high-impact journals. Many recent fellows have been awarded institutional NIH K12 awards, ASCO Young Investigator award, and/or other Career Development awards which have supported their transition into junior faculty positions. Members of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Stem Cell transplantation and Cellular Therapy Divisions are also active participants in graduate programs such as the Sheila and David Fuente Graduate Program in Cancer Biology, and many hold secondary appointments in affiliated graduate programs across the campus.
