General Infectious Diseases Fellowship
The mission of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program is to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases throughout South Florida and the Caribbean region through physician education and training. Graduates of our fellowship program occupy many leadership positions in the clinical, academic, and public health arenas throughout the region.
Fellows are exposed to extensive inpatient and outpatient experience in general infectious diseases, travel and tropical diseases, infections in solid organ and stem cell transplant recipients, hospital epidemiology and infection control, antibiotic stewardship, and HIV disease and prevention.
In 2019 the State of Florida launched the Getting 2 Zero initiative in conjunction with national efforts to reach zero new infections for HIV/AIDS. As South Florida is the epicenter of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States, fellows have a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of the latest research and clinical efforts targeting HIV/AIDS.
Through careful mentoring, our faculty provides valuable education and insight to prepare fellows for vibrant careers as physicians and researchers.

International Videoconference of Infectious Diseases
Through tele-education experts and students of limited resource areas can overcome the limitations of traditional face-to-face education. Dr. Gonzales Zamora, MD understood the value of tele-education and, in collaboration with Clinica Good Hope in Peru and Universidad Peruana Union, designed an international videoconferencing program for clinical case presentations.
Whether a student or established physician, the videoconferences expand knowledge of low-prevalence infections with an emphasis on tropical medicine and immunocompromised hosts. Join the University of Miami and fellow participants from Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, Clinica Good Hope (Peru), Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplasicas (Peru), Hospital 12 de Octubre (Spain), and Hospital Padre Hurtado (Chile), each month for a new session.
