Professionalism

Commendations recognize outstanding examples of professionalism. This information is shared with the Offices of Students Affairs, Medical Education, and any appropriate supervisors. Details may contribute to medical student dean's letters.

Formative Feedback (Professionalism) identifies opportunities for improvement in professional behavior. The Office of Students Affairs is notified and may contact the named individual and intervene if necessary. The Class Promotions Committee may review de-identified reports and recommend any necessary further action. 

Formative Feedback (Microaggressions/Bias Incidents) can be used to identify professional behaviors related to anti-oppression and bias (microaggressions) to provide opportunities for improvement.  These report can be submitted anonymously.  Office of Student Affairs may notify and contact the subject of report and intervene if necessary.

All form fields, including the name of the submitting person, are required for statistical and informational purposes.

Report specific incidents of mistreatment by faculty, staff, and residents through our ‘CaneWatch system. This comprehensive and confidential reporting tool documents mistreatment and other types of misconduct. ‘CaneWatch does not generate or maintain internal connection logs with IP addresses. Therefore, no information linking your personal computer to ‘CaneWatch is available, and ‘CaneWatch is contractually committed not to pursue the reporter’s identity.

File a MISTREATMENT report on a faculty, resident, or staff member using ‘CaneWatch. You may also contact a trained ethics representative to confidentially submit a report on your behalf through the ‘CaneWatch system.

Safe Space provides a safe haven, a listening ear, and visible support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) people at UMMSM.

At UMMSM, we value and appreciate diversity. In this 1.5-hour interactive workshop, participants learn about issues affecting the LGBTQ community, and how to be informed, effective allies in their daily lives. Our goal is to combat homophobia and heterosexism and to create a supportive, nurturing environment on the UMMSM campus.

Participants who complete the workshop receive a Safe Space sticker/magnet, to be displayed in their campus workplace, that identifies them as “someone who is sensitive, supportive, and respectful to the LGBTQ community, as well as those questioning their sexual orientation.”

It’s on Us is a national campaign to end sexual misconduct on college campuses. Learn about the steps the university is taking as part of Title IX to prevent, stop, and address sexual misconduct on our campus. Access information about options and resources available to individuals who have experienced sexual misconduct or gender discrimination.
