Being a doctor is about more than learning the ins and outs of medicine. Your future patients are looking to you to be a caring provider who can compassionately meet their health needs. Our “Introduction to the Medical Professional (IMP) and Medicine as a Profession (MAP)” course series goes beyond the knowledge, skills, and attitudes you need to be a transformative medical leader.
Alongside teaching the fundamentals of being a physician, the MAP course will teach you what it means to be a doctor, live a doctor’s life, and do a doctor’s work. Ultimately, our goal is to train you to become an altruistic, dutiful, culturally humble, and ethical physician who is dedicated to lifelong learning and committed to compassionate, respectful patient care.
The IMP and MAP courses focus on seven themes:
- Clinical skills
- Communication
- Health systems science
- Nutrition and wellness
- Personal development
- Population health
- Professionalism
