Longitudinal Clinician Educators (LCEs) are Miller School of Medicine faculty members who are dedicated to shepherding students through the transformative journey of becoming physicians. Primarily, they function as advocates, offering guidance, coaching, and mentorship to students navigating the medical school journey.
LCEs meet regularly with a group of eight students, forming a relationship and helping each student. These longitudinal educators will continue to work with students across all phases of their education. Due to their close working relationships with students, LCEs engage in candid conversations, addressing individual strengths and challenges, providing constructive feedback, suggesting remediation resources when needed, and facilitating professional growth.
Conversations with students remain confidential, unless a matter is raised that threatens a person's health or safety. Simultaneously, LCEs are committed to ensuring that students meet essential developmental milestones in knowledge, skills, attitudes, and professionalism, fostering their transformation into competent physicians who embody the standards of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
