2024-25 Mandatory Fees
Medical Student Assistance Programs » $220
This fee enables medical students to receive a number of core services including:
- Access to the Medical Student Urgent Care Service for urgent medical needs through the Department of Family Medicine and Internal Medicine at the Professional Arts Center, Park Plaza West 4th floor. Click HERE for further information about Health Care options.
- Free annual flu vaccines
- Annual TB skin testing
- Annual OSHA training
- Occupational exposures or injuries (i.e. needle sticks)
- Access to the Student Behavioral Health Service providing confidential psychiatric and psychological counseling (at least 5-10 free visits per year)
Please note that the medical health & wellness fee is charged in full at the beginning of the Fall semester. NOTE: Students on LOA/WWITR have the option to pay this fee and continue to receive services noted above.
Health and Counseling Center Fee (Gables Campus) » $370
This fee enables medical students to receive a number of core services at the Student Health Center on the Coral Gables Campus including:
- Maintenance of student health records
- Verification and health-care related, required updates of immunizations
- Primary Care
- Access to the Student Counseling Center http://counseling.studentaffairs.miami.edu/index.html.

NOTE: Students on LOA/WWITR are NOT charged this fee and therefore will not have access to care at the Student Health Center on the Coral Gables campus or the Student Counseling Center during the leave of absence. Students continue to have access to medical campus services if they elect to pay the medical school health fee.
Disability Insurance Fee » $64
The UMMSM purchases disability insurance for all active medical students. Should a student become disabled during their medical education, they may be eligible to receive compensation. Please note that the disability insurance fee is charged in full at the beginning of the Fall semester. Please contact the Office of Student Affairs for more information.
Student Government Fee » $115
All monies derived from this fee are turned over to the student government to help support student organizations and annual events such as the Medical Student Convention and the Fall Ball. Please note that the student government fee is charged in full at the beginning of the Fall semester.
Wellness Center (Med) Fee » $430
This fee provides students access to the University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Hospital Wellness Center (Med) and the Wellness Center (Med) located on the Coral Gables main campus. Opened in the Fall of 2006, the UM/JMH Wellness Center (Med) is a state-of-the-art facility offering a variety of fitness activities and programs, including cardio-vascular and strength training, stress reduction, smoking cessation and weight managements. Gables Student Activity Fee » $15
This fee enables medical students to have access to university wide events on the Coral Gables campus such a concerts and lecture series with prominent and distinguished speakers.
Technology Fee » $400
The technology fee is $400 per academic year and provides financial support for exam software and additional online modules for use in clerkships. Please note that the technology fee is charged in full at the beginning of the Fall semester.

Books And Supplies
The Doctoring/Physicianship Skills Office distributes specific equipment recommendations. Cost is estimated based on the purchase of all course reference textbooks (including USMLE Step 1 Examination preparatory materials) and diagnostic instruments:

Health Insurance
You must carry your own health insurance, and the fee is charged in full at the beginning of Fall semester. You may use your insurance to receive acute medical care on either the Coral Gables or Medical Center campuses.
