Newly Admitted Students FAQ

In rare circumstances we consider requests for matriculation to a future class. Any such deferment requests should be for a compelling reason and must be communicated in writing to the Office of Admissions: med.admissions@miami.edu

Although most clinical sites are on our health system campus, you may require transportation for some clinical rotations (Jackson North, Jackson South, Miami Beach Community Health Center, preceptor offices, etc.)  Many students find options that allow them to manage their responsibilities without the expenses of a personal vehicle.

Newly accepted medical students will receive information via email. Prior to matriculation, Miller School of Medicine communication will be sent to the email addresses listed on your AMCAS application. Please be sure to update AMCAS if there are any updates to your email address or contact information. 

Once you are enrolled in classes (refer to the Important Dates & Deadlines above), you will be able to access your @med.med.miami.edu email inbox and Microsoft Teams, as well as other helpful resources. Be sure to log into your med.miam.edu email address and download the Microsoft Teams app so that you never miss out on important information! 

Students receive their student IDs during the Orientation and Onboarding (refer to the academic calendar for specific dates). 

You do not need to know medical Spanish to be accepted into the Miller School of Medicine. While it is not a pre-requisite to speak Spanish to attend Miller, our medical students serve a large community of Spanish- and Haitian Creole-speaking patients. If you decide to attend Miller, you can expect to receive additional information and resources to help you communicate with our diverse patient population.
