During each phase of our NextGenMD curriculum, our students complete three stages of coursework that, at the end of four years, provide an elite cumulative medical education experience. You can learn more about the courses included in each phase below.
Phase 1: Foundations
Student-led, faculty-facilitated, case-based collaborative approach to learning foundational sciences. Students are mentored from Longitudinal Clinical Educators (LCEs) who teach foundational clinical skills.
Students must complete these foundational courses during the 14-month Phase 1:
Biomedical Principles of Health
Symptoms, Signs, and Disease 1 (Cardiovascular, Respiratory)
Symptoms, Signs, and Disease 2 (Renal, Respiratory)
Symptoms, Signs, and Disease 3 (GI, Hematology, Neurology)
Symptoms, Signs, and Disease 4 (ENT/Dermatology, Neurology, Psychology)
Symptoms, Signs, and Disease 5 (Endocrine/Reproductive, Rheumatology)
This 12-month phase consists of four 12-week blocks of integrated clerkships. Basic science, longitudinal topics, simulation, standardized patient experiences, and competency-based assessments are integrated into every clerkship.
The four blocks include:
Mind, Matter, and Medicine: Neurology, Psychiatry
ER to OR: Surgery, Anesthesia, and Emergency Medicine
Practice of Medicine: Inpatient/Outpatient Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care
Women and Children’s Health: Pediatrics and Obstetrics-Gynecology
Mind, Matter and Medicine

Phase 3: Pathways & Capstones
This final 18-month phase offers students a more personalized, varied curriculum experience. Not only can you explore career goals and interests, but you also complete dual degrees and other scholarly projects. By the end of Phase 3, students have achieved competency as sub-interns and are ready for an internship.
