Katherine Drews-Elger

Katherine Drews-Elger was raised in Medellín, Colombia, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana. She then pursued a PhD in Biomedicine at Universität Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain), did her postdoctoral training in translational breast cancer research at the University of Miami and more recently she received an MD degree from Universidad CES (Medellin, Colombia). She is currently pursuing Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Residency training and has an interest in Hematopathology and Molecular Pathology. She enjoys coffee, languages, traveling, cycling, and spending time with friends and family.

Felipe Ruiz

Felipe Ruiz was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Felipe studied medicine at the Universidad de Los Andes. He is completing a four-year Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Residency training. He is planning to pursue a fellowship in breast and gynecologic pathology. Outside of the hospital he likes to spend time with his wife and friends, either by playing some kind of sport, games or looking for new places to eat.

Austin Choi, M.D.

Austin Choi grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His education includes an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from Syracuse University, followed by a Ph.D. and M.D. from the University of Miami. Outside of his professional interests, Austin enjoys cooking for friends and family, exploring the outdoors, and reading.

Diego Colunge, D.O.

Originally from Lima, Peru, moved to Miami at 16. There, he earned his BS and MS degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Florida International University before pursuing medicine at Nova Southeastern University’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. Currently immersed in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Residency training, he's drawn to Neuropathology and Cytopathology. Outside of his studies, Diego enjoys reading, playing soccer and racquetball, and spending time with family.

Nicholas Parisi, M.D.

I was born and raised in Littleton, Colorado. I joined the Air Force in 2010, got out in 2014 and received my B.S. in biology from the University of Colorado. My hobbies include playing tennis, traveling and enjoying coffee.

Nikunj Shah, D.O.

Ninkunj was born in New Jersey but has spent most of his life in Massachusetts. He holds a bachelor’s degree from MCPHS University in Boston and earned his D.O. degree from LECOM in Erie, PA. He is currently completing a four-year combined Anatomic & Clinical Pathology residency training program. Outside of the lab, he enjoys watching and playing basketball, cooking new foods, listening to music, attending concerts, spending quality time with friends and family, and playing video games.

Virginia Fernandez

Virginia Fernandez was born in Marianao, Cuba and was raised in Florida after moving to Miami at the age of 10 with her family. She obtained her BS degree from Florida International University and then went on to pursue her DO degree at Nova Southeastern University’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is currently pursuing Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Residency training and has an interest in Bone and Soft tissue, Pediatric pathology and Neuropathology. In her spare time, she enjoys exercising, reading, drawing, going on outdoor adventures and spending time with her family, her husband and her two tabby cats.

Lucas Macha

Lucas Macha was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He received both his undergraduate degree in University in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and his Medical Degree at Tulane University. His academic interests include blood banking, bone and soft tissue pathology, and dermatopathology. In his free time, he likes to play spikeball and go on road trips with friends.

Yasamin Mirzabeigi

Yasamin Mirzabeigi was born and raised in Tehran, Iran where she received her MD from Iran University of Medical Sciences. After she finished her social service, she moved to the United States with her family in 2020. She is pursuing Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Residency training and her academic interests include Gastrointestinal/Liver pathology. Outside of her job, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and exploring new places to eat.

Abigail Woltering

Abigail Woltering is originally from Columbia, Illinois. She holds bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology and Sociology from Louisiana State University and in Biological Sciences from Florida International University. She completed her M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Central Florida, after which she received her M.D. from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She is currently pursuing Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Residency training and has an interest in forensic pathology. She enjoys photography, going on runs with her dog, and playing kickball.

Grace Amable

Grace Amable was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa. She relocated to the United States in 2009, where she earned her master's degree in Environmental Science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. She further decided to make a career switch to follow her true passion and received her MD from Ross University School of Medicine, Barbados. Grace is pursuing Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Residency training. She enjoys international travels, cultural exploration, dancing, and kickboxing.

Sibel Gultekin

Sibel Gultekin was born in Bursa, Turkey. She received her medical degree from Cumhuriyet Universitesi, Turkey. She is currently pursuing Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Residency training.

Andre Obua

Andre Obua was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed medical school at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. His academic interests include forensic pathology and clinical informatics.  In his free time, he enjoys traveling, cycling, basketball, volleyball, and DIY projects.

Rodrigo Santoscoy Valencia

Rodrigo Santoscoy Valencia was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He received his MD degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. He enjoys traveling, playing soccer, golf, watching movies and spending time with friends and family.

Amr Abulaban

Amr Abulaban was born and raised in Amman, Jordan. He received his MD in 2020 from the University of Jordan and is now pursuing Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Residency training. He enjoys cooking, reading, playing chess and video games.

Felipe Camacho

Felipe Camacho is from Quito, Ecuador. He received his MD from Universidad de Las Américas Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud. He enjoys cycling, cooking, watching movies, and spending time with his family.

Lin Li

Lin Li was born and raised in China and moved to the United States after medical school. She received her MD from Shandong Medical University and her PhD in Human Genetics from Virginia Commonwealth University. She did an observership in pathology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital before joining the program. She is pursuing Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Residency training. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and beautiful daughter, cooking, travel and hiking.

Guannan Tiffany Zhang

Guannan Tiffany Zhang was raised in Shenyang, China and she graduated from Dalian Medical University in Dalian, China. In 2012, she came to the United States to pursue her PhD degree in pharmacology at St. John’s University. For her thesis work, she studied the mechanism of multi-drug resistance in cancer in vitro and in vivo. When she is not working or studying, she loves traveling, reading, and spending time with her husband and daughter.
