The Translational Research Division (TRD) in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is developing a comprehensive, multi-disciplined investigative clinical research platform which will integrate biospecimen collection activities with clinical-grade histology support and advanced fluid, cell, and tissue-based phenotyping.

As part of the TRD mission of providing advanced technologies to interrogate mechanisms of disease the BSSR will have an expanded alignment with the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine to create outreach programs designed to address the needs of all cancer center researchers. This will promote integrative disease biospecimen collection practices with pathology expertise while directly linking the BSSR with the newly formed LTB Histology Core and the newly formed Macromolecular Core which will isolate DNA/RNA/miRNA from tissues and blood collected in the BSSR. The TRD-LTB platform will also directly support, through pathology disease expertise, the cancer modeling group under the direction of Dr. Daniel Bilbao where advances in immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, image analysis, laser capture microdissection and DNA/RNA In Situ Hybridization will be developed and offered as services to the SCCC and across the entire translational research community.
