Transfusion Medicine

Division of Laboratory Medicine
The Transfusion Medicine Service is responsible for all laboratory and patient care services in the area of Transfusion Medicine for the Jackson Health System (JHS) including Holtz Children's Hospital, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC/UMHC), and University Health Tower and Clinics.

Our faculty provides oversight and services in transfusion services, apheresis services, and cell therapy. We serve a level one trauma center, solid organ and hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation programs, a pediatric hospital, high risk neonatal and obstetrical programs, and neurological and cardiovascular surgery programs.  Our faculty are academically productive with our research efforts primarily focused transfusion safety, transfusion indications, innovative transfusion testing and transfusion practice.

The service is directed by Dr. Yanyun Wu. Dr. Wu is boarded in Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine. Her primary clinical and research interests are in transfusion medicine, apheresis, and cell therapy. Dr. Wu also serves as program director of the Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine fellowship.

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine offers a Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine.
