Message from our Chief Residents

Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
Dear Future Pathology Residents and Fellows,

As the 2025-2026 Chief Residents, we are proud to invite you to discover the University of Miami/Jackson Health System Pathology Residency Program – a top-tier choice for your pathology career.

Our AP/CP program offers personalized learning with both AP and CP pathways, allowing you to tailor your training to your goals. You will join a close-knit, supportive community of 17 residents and 15 fellows who will become your colleagues and friends.

Our diverse training experiences are led by dedicated faculty, including world-renowned experts who are passionate about teaching and mentorship. With daily specialty-based sign-outs, you will dive deep into the subspecialties that ignite your curiosity and accelerate your expertise.

Rotating across three major hospitals – University of Miami Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and the Miami Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center – you will encounter an unparalleled volume and variety of cases, with over 2,300 inpatients and 80,000 specimens annually. You will hone your diagnostic skills and build confidence under the guidance of experienced pathology assistants who will support you in grossing and handling complex specimens.

Learning is at the core of our program. You will engage in dynamic AP/CP rounds, subspecialty lectures, and resident-led case conferences, both virtually and in person. Daily interesting case scope sessions will provide continuous exposure to diverse subspecialties. In addition, residents have six months of elective time for further in-depth exploration of your interests and off-campus rotations. Our fellows have additional educational and teaching opportunities, through leading journal club sessions and participating in tumor board meetings.

The UM/JHS Pathology Residency Program has a long, proven track record of success, with graduates securing fellowships at leading institutions and many alumni serving as faculty at various premier institutes.

We are also proud to offer outstanding research opportunities, including resources, financial assistance, and faculty mentorship. Our residents have won numerous awards for their research and consistently publish and present their work at state and national conferences.

And let's not forget our location! Miami's vibrant energy, year-round sunshine, and endless attractions provide the perfect balance to your demanding residency schedule with ample opportunities for relaxation and leisure.

We are confident that our program offers an unequalled overall training experience, and we are exceptionally proud to serve as its Chief Residents. Please reach out if you have any questions – we would love to connect!

Sincerely,

Abigail & Yasamin
