The Leadership Education and Academic Development (LEAD) Program, sponsored by the Department of Medical Education and the Office of Faculty Affairs, is designed to enhance the leadership competencies of mid-career faculty at the associate or full professor level. Dr. Shalom Saar serves as the program's Chief Facilitator.
The LEAD Program spans 18 sessions, covering a range of topics related to leadership skills. Participants meet monthly, on the fourth Friday of each month, for three hours from 9 a.m.-noon. Additionally, one hour per month is dedicated to reading and project-related work. All sessions are held in-person at the Miller School of Medicine.
The LEAD curriculum focuses on the following aspects of health care leadership:
- Health care environment and its challenges.
- Industry trends and disruptions.
- Business development and strategic partnerships.
- Financial fundamentals for health care leaders.
- Strategic planning and visioning, emotional intelligence.
- Leadership agility.
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Building learning organizations.
- Leading organizational change.
- Talent development and succession planning.
- Organizational culture.
Enrollment
Enrollment in the LEAD program is available through either a supervisor nomination or self-nomination. To be eligible, nominees must hold at least an Associate-level position and hold a leadership role.
Enrollment is currently closed and will reopen in Fall 2025.
