Biography
Kathryn E. McCollister, Ph.D., chairs the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she holds the Chen Family Endowed Chair for Population Health. A professor and health economist, she applies cost-effectiveness and benefit-cost analysis to evaluate treatment and preventive interventions for substance use, mental illness, and HIV/HCV risk, with particular attention to people with substance use disorders. Her research also extends to interventions involving the criminal legal system, pregnant and parenting women, Hispanic youth, and other underserved communities.
Dr. McCollister serves as lead economist on several NIH Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative projects, including the HEALing Communities Study, the Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network (JCOIN 1.0), the HEAL Prevention Cooperative, and HEAL Data2Action's Modeling and Economic Resource Center. She is co-PI of the Criminal-Legal Economic Analysis & Resource Center (CLEAR) within the Justice Community Overdose Innovation Network (JCOIN 2.0), and directs the Methodology Core for CHERISH, the NIDA-funded Center for Health Economics of Treatment Interventions for Substance Use Disorder, HCV, and HIV.
She teaches health economics in the M.P.H. and M.D./M.P.H. programs, serves as an NIH grant peer reviewer, and sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Substance Use and Addiction Treatment, Healthcare, and PLOS ONE. -
