Dr. Joan E. St. Onge a professor of clinical medicine and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She is a graduate of the Catholic University of America and Georgetown University School of Medicine and received her M.P.H. from the University of Miami. After graduating from medical school, Dr. St. Onge pursued Internal Medicine residency training at Georgetown, followed by a chief residency year. Her clinical focus is on the care of complex adult patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting and women’s health. Dr. St. Onge’s academic focus has been on medical education along the continuum, from undergraduate and graduate medical education to faculty, holding various leadership roles in these areas. She has served as internal medicine clerkship director at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Regional Campus and as Assistant Regional Dean for Clinical Curriculum. In graduate medical education, Dr. St. Onge was the Program Director of the Georgetown University Internal Medicine Residency Program and the George Washington University Internal Medicine Residency program. In Miami, she was the Designated Institutional Official for the UM/Jackson Health System ACGME institution. In her role in faculty affairs, Dr. St. Onge has been involved with addressing salary equity, and career development of all faculty. She leads the Faculty Affairs Action Team of the C-Change initiative at the Miller School. . She is the co-sponsor of the Leadership Education and Academic Development (LEAD) Program for mid-career faculty at the Miller School of Medicine. Dr. St. Onge is a past member of the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Resident Affairs (GRA) Steering Committee and is the former Chair of the GRA. She is the co-chair of the GME Working Group of the Council of Florida Medical School Deans, she is the former co-chair of the Florida Physician Workforce Advisory Committee, appointed by the governor. Dr. St. Onge is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and has received numerous teaching awards. She is an alumna of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine program at Drexel University.
