Research Interests
Dr. Kanamori’s research focuses on biomedical HIV prevention, substance use, and cancer, with an emphasis on reducing health disparities among underserved Latino populations.
His work integrates implementation science, social network analysis, and community-based participatory research to design and evaluate multilevel interventions. He has developed social network–based intervention models, including a spatially explicit framework that integrates multiple network types with geographic information systems. Initially applied to HIV and substance use prevention, this approach has been adapted for cancer prevention and control using artificial intelligence methods.
His research includes the development and evaluation of social network–based HIV prevention programs for high-risk populations, including Latina seasonal workers, as well as studies examining HIV prevention strategies among young Latino men. He also leads projects focused on addressing substance use disparities and improving access to prevention services through culturally tailored interventions.
In addition, Dr. Kanamori collaborates with community partners to develop culturally relevant health communication strategies and digital tools to enhance community engagement. -
