Biography
Dr. Latha Chandran currently serves as the Executive Dean for Education and Policy and the Bernard J. Fogel Founding Chair of the Department of Medical Education at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. In this role, she led the implementation of the innovative NextGenMD curriculum in 2020.
In addition to overseeing the NextGenMD curriculum, Dr. Chandran supervises all graduate medical education and continuing medical education programs, as well as the university’s Biomedical Master’s and PhD programs. She also directs the Academy of Medical Education Scholars at the Miller School of Medicine, focusing on advancing educational scholarship.
Dr. Chandran’s distinguished academic journey began in India, where she earned her medical degree from Trivandrum Medical College. She furthered her expertise with a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from the University of Miami. Her career has included pivotal roles at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University in New York, where she served in capacities such as Chief Resident, Division Chief, Interim Department Chair, and Vice Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs. She was also honored as the Miriam and David Donoho Distinguished Teaching Professor.
A tenured educational scholar and recipient of numerous teaching awards, Dr. Chandran co-founded the award-winning Educational Scholars Program, a national faculty development initiative fostering educational scholarship among junior pediatric educators.
Dr. Chandran’s professional accolades include membership in the National Academy of Distinguished Educators in Pediatrics and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She has also served in leadership roles such as President of the Academic Pediatric Association, Treasurer and Vice Chair of the National Board of Medical Examiners, and as a curriculum and LCME consultant to medical schools nationwide.
Her dedication to advancing medical education continues to inspire the next generation of healthcare leaders at the Miller School of Medicine and beyond. -
