Biography
Dr. Obeso received her medical degree in May 2000 from the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Following her residency, she pursued a fellowship in Research in Medical Education at the University of Miami Gordon Center, recognized as a Center of Excellence in Simulation and Research in Medical Education. After completing her fellowship, she was appointed Assistant Director of Clinical Skills training at the UM Gordon Center, concurrently engaging in clinical practice, clinical instruction, and concentrating her academic endeavors on simulation, curriculum development, and clinical assessment.
In 2008, Dr. Obeso embarked on a distinctive collaborative effort between the University of Miami and Florida International University, where she played a pivotal role as the principal consultant in the development and implementation of the clinical skills training and assessment program at the newly established FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. This endeavor marked a significant milestone in her career. By 2011, she transitioned to FIU as Assistant Dean for Curriculum and Medical Education, and she took on the leadership of the Albert and Debbie Tano Simulation Center at FIU HWCOM. From 2018 to 2022, Dr. Obeso served as the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Medical Education at FIU.
From 2014 to 2021, Dr. Obeso was a lead representative in the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) Core Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) for Entering Residents pilot program. As one of the lead representatives in this multi-institutional initiative Dr. Obeso led the development and implementation of this new clinical assessment program grounded in the EPA framework. This leadership role provided her with the opportunities to disseminate her work through numerous publications and presentations at regional, national, and international forums.
Dr. Obeso’s commitment to medical education extends beyond her institution. She is invited to teach annually at the American College of Physician's Annual ACP conference and proudly holds the distinction of being an alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Macy Institute. Over the past six years, she has been invited to return as a faculty Scholar for the Harvard Macy Institute's "Systems Approach to Assessment in Health Professions Education" course.
In December 2022, Dr. Obeso returned to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, accepting the roles of Senior Director of Clinical Skills and Competency-Based Assessment, Director of Medicine as a Profession (MAP) and Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education. -
