The nutrition training program at the Mailman Center for Child Development provides training to Dietetic interns with an interest in pediatric nutrition. The training program focuses on nutritionally complex pediatric patients with gastrointestinal and genetic conditions.
Through the training program students will:
- Assess the nutritional needs of patients
- Create nutrition plans using specialized medical foods
- Educate patients and their families about nutrition management of their conditions
- Develop motivational interviewing and counseling skills
- Present to faculty on pediatric nutrition related topics
- Learn about public health programs and community resources
- Have the opportunity to participate in research
The nutrition training program at the Mailman Center for Child Development is designed to serve as an Elective Rotation for Dietetic Interns in an ACEND Accredited Training Program (with an affiliation agreement in place with the University of Miami). This training program requires a minimum commitment of four weeks.
Like all trainees at the Mailman Center, nutrition trainees will participate in the LEND (Leadership Development in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities) Program, a federally-funded training program with an emphasis on interprofessional teams, building family professional partnerships, health equity and cultural humility.
To apply, please email Christy Figueredo (cng67@med.miami.edu) with your interest in the program and your resume/CV.
