The Early Childhood Intern receives specialty training in delivery of telehealth, childcare center-based, and in-home consultation and therapy services to children birth up to five years old, who are at-risk for developmental delays and/or social emotional concerns.

Specialty track includes training in the following rotations

Early Childhood Interventions (Early Discovery)

Interns in this rotation conduct virtual and in-person intervention sessions. Sessions typically include behavior management and developmental interventions in an individual format with children age 0-5. The majority of children served are from low-income ethnic minority backgrounds. Once in person sessions resume, this will entail driving to various homes or childcare centers in Miami-Dade. Therapists use a parent coaching model to enhance the skills of the primary caregiver or the teachers to support client skill generalization across settings. Students make appropriate referrals to Part B or Part C, or other clinical services for more severe cases.
