Assistive Technology Trainings

Mailman Center for Child Development

About the Course

Interdisciplinary Fundamentals in Adaptive and Assistive Technology was developed in 2001 through the collaboration of educators at the University of Miami Mailman Center for Child Development (MCCD) and the Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology (FAAST). The content was updated in 2020 to meet current AT standards.

This course is based on the American Speech Hearing Association’s Augmentative and Alternative Communication Competencies, the Occupational Therapy Technology Competencies, and the Rehabilitation Engineering Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) Guidelines for Knowledge and Skills for Provision of Assistive Technology in preparation for the RESNA Credentialing Exam.

This course can serve as a review of assistive technology policies and procedures, service plans, and devices for different needs. It is not directly tied to the updated RESNA certification, but it can help refresh many concepts. It is self-paced but we recommend completing it within six months.

This course includes topics related to the use and availability of adaptive and assistive technology (AT) as well as service delivery to individuals across the lifespan. The course consists of text, audio, images, and multimedia.
