Joan St. Onge

Joan St. Onge, M.D., FACP

Senior Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education

Dr. St. Onge graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine and continued her training in Internal Medicine at the Georgetown University Hospital. After her chief residency, she joined the faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Georgetown, and began her career as a Clinician Educator. She has served as Program Director in two academic institutions before coming to the University in 2008. Dr. St. Onge has been involved in the development of the Regional Campus, working with the medical students as Integrated Medicine Clerkship Director, and Assistant Dean of Clinical Curriculum before becoming the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at UMMSM. A member of Alpha Omega Alpha, she has received a number of awards for teaching, including being named the Teacher of the Year by the ACP Florida Chapter in 2012. Dr. St. Onge lives in the Fort Lauderdale area with her husband and two sons. She is an avid walker, beachgoer, and cook.

Frederick Williams

Frederick K. Williams, M.D., FACP

Transitional Year Program Director

Frederick Williams, MD, FACP completed his medical degree at the University of South Florida and Internal Medicine Residency at the George Washington University in Washington, DC. With over 30 years of experience in graduate medical education, Dr. Williams joined the UM faculty in 2009 as the program director at the newly opened University of Miami, Palm Beach GME Consortium Internal Medicine Residency. In February 2017 he moved into the role of program director at Holy Cross and has also assumed the role of Assistant Director of Graduate Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official.  He transitioned out of the role of Internal Medicine Program Director in 2023, but continues as the Designated Institutional Official and Program Director for the Transitional Year Residency Program.

He is clinically active in general internal medicine supervising and teaching medical residents and students in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. His interests include adult learning theory and curriculum design for medical education, healthcare for special populations, and quality improvement.

Dr. Williams was born and raised in New England, but now enjoys the lifestyle and weather of the Ft Lauderdale area.


Kenneth Homer

Kenneth Homer, M.D.

Chief GME Officer

Dr. Homer is the Chief Graduate Medical Education Officer of Holy Cross Hospital and an integral part of the University of Miami at Holy Cross Hospital Partnership. Prior to joining Holy Cross, Dr. Homer served as Vice Chief of Medical Staff and Chief Medical Officer of Tenet North Ridge Medical Center. Dr. Homer is a University of Miami Miller School of Medicine graduate. He completed residency at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. Outside of work, Dr. Homer enjoys running, golfing, spending time with his wife, listening to good music with his sons, and spending time with friends within the community.
