Academic Half-Day

The week begins with Intern Noon Report as well as Board Review for Seniors. This session is led by our Designated Institutional Officer Dr. Frederick Williams. This session consists of a case presentation by one of the PGY-1 residents in the Wards teams. Intern Noon Report emphasizes on developing strong clinical reasoning skills and formulating differential diagnosis. It also provides an opportunity for residents to present a teaching point to their peers.

For the senior residents (PGY-2-PGY-3), Board Review sessions are held every Monday at Noon beginning early in the academic year. The sessions are led by our Internal Medicine Program Dr. Nemer Dabage, who has been giving these lectures for many years.

Morning report takes place every Tuesday morning at 7 AM. This session consists of Transition of Care. These interactive sessions are dedicated to improving both presentation as well as communication skills. The night team signs out the overnight admissions and overnight events to the respective teams under direct supervision of the Chief Medical Residents.

Noon report occurs every day except Tuesdays. It consists mostly of didactic lectures given by Faculty Staff on multiple specialties. There are also some dedicated sessions for Journal Club, Senior Case Conferences, Senior Talks, and Town Halls. Thursdays and Fridays, after the noon conference, the senior residents on Wards teams get together for 1 hour for a Senior Report led by the Chief Medical Residents.

Every Wednesday, we participate in virtual Grand Rounds with The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. All residents get together in the Auditorium and attend Grand Rounds virtually. This is a great opportunity to attend lectures from Nationwide renowned physicians, as well as stay updated with the latest groundbreaking research.

UM MGR Archives

The ambulatory specific didactic curriculum is covered by one of our Associate Program Directors Dr. Anita Sikha as well as the Chief Medical Residents. They take place on the ambulatory block, and it is class specific. Meaning that the PGY-1 have a dedicated curriculum, and Seniors (PGY-2 and PGY-3) have a different agenda. All residents on their ambulatory block rotation attend as part of their two-week ambulatory rotation. As a resource, we utilize The Johns Hopkins University Outpatient Curriculum.

Academic Half days occur every Wednesday after Grand Rounds. PGY-1 and Senior residents alternate Wednesdays for dedicated, protected time to cover the General internal Medicine Curriculum, as a series of lectures given by our Internal Medicine/Specialty Faculty Staff.
