Curriculum

Graduate Medical Education

The University of Miami-Holy Cross Transitional Year Residency curriculum is designed to provide a well-rounded, multidisciplinary approach to medical training prior to you advancing into your chosen field.

In accordance with the requirements set forth by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), residents spend a minimum of 24 weeks of their year on rotations that provide Fundamental Clinical Skills (FCS). These include Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Surgery. Our program provides the unique opportunity to obtain FCS in a community-based academic setting, giving you real-life, hands-on experience so you can start your advanced training well-prepared. In addition, residents have up to 14 weeks of electives to tailor your education to fit your individual, unique interests. The TY training is supplemented by a two-week Quality Improvement/Patient Safety (QI/PS) rotation. Overall, it’s a busy year with a steep learning curve and our TY residents graduate equipped with the toolkit necessary to continue advanced training with success.
