Residency Research and Quality Improvement

Graduate Medical Education

Our residents develop their Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) skillset through workshops and journal club sessions throughout the year. We focus on the fundamentals of EBM so you can critically appraise and apply the latest medical information to your clinical practice with ease.

TY residents have a dedicated two-week block during which time you will work with your peers to develop a QI project guided by Dr. Giese, our Director of QI/PS. You’ll become certified by the Institute of Healthcare Improvement in QI/PS, work on simulated and actual patient safety encounters, and participate in hospital committees.

Also, Transitional Year residents have opportunities to participate in scholarly endeavors. From invited lectures, QI projects and case reports up to meta analyses, our residents have done it all! While there is no requirement in the Transitional Year publish research, scholarly work is strongly encouraged and supported. Residents often partake in research at Holy Cross and the University of Miami, and are afforded the tools necessary for successful scholarship.
