UHealth Tower

UHealth Tower (formerly University of Miami Hospital and Clinics) is a 500 bed facility located across the street from the Miller School of Medicine, Veteran Affairs Hospital and JMH. Orthopaedic residents rotate through this hospital while on the sports medicine, reconstructive, and musculoskeletal oncology services. More than 817 orthopaedic operative procedures were performed at UMH last year.


Jackson Memorial Hospital

With 1,567 beds and serving as the county hospital for Miami and Dade County, Jackson Memorial Hospital is utilized as the main teaching hospital. It is part of the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center Complex, a modern 67-acre campus located minutes from downtown Miami and Brickell, and ten minutes from Miami Beach. The average daily orthopaedic inpatient census ranges from 25 to 60 and annual orthopaedic outpatient clinic visits total over 26,500. There is an average of 10,100 operative procedures performed annually by the orthopaedic department. JMH remains one of the premiere teaching hospitals in nation due to its extensive Catchment area as well as the unique pathologies that are only seen at a facilities such as this one.


Veteran Affairs Hospital

Rotations: Hand (PGY 3), General orthopaedics (PGY 1,3,5)

Located across the street from Jackson Memorial Hospital and University of Miami Hospital, the Veterans Administration Hospital is a 651 bed hospital with an additional 240 beds in the nursing home. Annual orthopaedic outpatient clinic visits total over 4,800, with more than 460 orthopaedic operative procedures performed last year.


Nicklaus Children’s Hospital (Miami Children’s Hospital)

Rotations: Pediatric Orthopaedics

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital (NCH), formerly Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH), is a 268-bed hospital that remains one of the truly great hospitals in South Florida. Residents on the Pediatric Orthopaedic Service take care of children at both MCH and UM/JMMC. Annual exposure at NCH exceeds 10,000 outpatient visits plus approximately 700-800 surgical patients.


The Lennar Foundation Medical Center

Rotation years: 1,3,4,5
Rotations: Hand (PGY 5), Sports (PGY 3,4,5)

The Lennar Center is the newest additional to the orthopedic program and the newest and nicest medical facility in South Florida. Residents receive unique aspects of private practice exposure. The Lennar Foundation Medical Center delivers specialty care by the renowned Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (ranked the No. 1 eye hospital in the nation for 15 years by U.S. News & World Report), and UM’s Sports Medicine Institute.


Surgical Skills Lab

The University of Miami Surgical Skills Laboratory is an anatomical dissection and surgical training lab opened in November 2018 available to faculty, residents, fellows, medical students and community physicians.
