University of Miami Orthopaedic Trauma/Ryder Trauma (UMRYDER) was selected as one of only 30 civilian core trauma centers and four military centers in the USA to participate in the Department of Defense funded Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium (METRC).
The major goal of the consortium is to provide funding and support for multicenter clinical studies of military and civilian trauma and produce high quality evidence-based studies that would benefit both military and civilian trauma victims. It has been recognized as the one of the largest consortiums in trauma research. UMRYDER has been an active participant in several studies including eight current studies. The orthopaedic trauma attending faculty have been instrumental in selection, enrollment, and follow-up of all METRC study subjects. Several of our Orthopaedic Trauma faculty have served on key METRC committees, including Publications and Protocols.
