Hand Surgery Fellowship

We appreciate your interest in our program and look forward to showing you what makes us so proud of the University of Miami/Jackson Health System Hand Surgery (Orthopaedic Surgery) Fellowship Program.

The fellowship offers two positions available to board-eligible general surgeons, plastic surgeons, and orthopedic surgeons who want additional training in the evaluation and management of upper extremity conditions.

Trainees benefit from our in-depth experience in the full breadth of hand surgery, from the common to the complex. In addition to an active clinical service, fellows will benefit from a comprehensive teaching curriculum, mentorship, and research opportunities, as well as conference and educational stipends.

Jackson Memorial Hospital is a large, university-affiliated county hospital and is the perfect sponsor for your Hand Surgery Fellowship training. Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital is the largest Level I adult and pediatric trauma center in South Florida. As such, fellows gain outstanding experience in managing burn, trauma, and intensive care unit patients.

We are also associated with several other hospitals and facilities to broaden your training experience. These include but are not limited to:

Year 1

Throughout the year, our program is based on Dr. Peter Stern’s lecture series. Fellows will participate in academic conferences; Grand Rounds; microvascular lab; monthly journal club and Monday morning lecture. These Monday morning didactic lectures have been carefully structured to cover the entire spectrum of hand surgery in a series of weekly conferences and are the joint responsibility of the fellows and faculty on the hand surgery service.

Fellows will be provided with several educational resources, including conference and educational stipends and access to the Louis Calder Memorial Library.

Additionally, each fellow is expected to participate in research during the year culminating in either a presentation at a national meeting or a publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Numerous opportunities are also available to participate in research projects with core faculty.
