Lina Ali, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Ali was born and raised in Iraq, where she completed her medical education at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad. She then moved to North Carolina, where she completed her residency in internal medicine. Dr. Ali is now a hospitalist at the University of Miami. Her professional interests include quality improvement initiatives, medical education, patient-centered care, and advancing healthcare delivery models to improve outcomes.
Scott Berger, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Scott Berger received his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he also earned a Master of Public Health. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Miami at Holy Cross Hospital and a fellowship in academic hospital medicine at the University of Washington Medical Center at Montlake.
Aldo Pavon Canseco, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Aldo Pavon Canseco received his medical degree from the Superior Institute of Medical Sciences in Havana, Cuba. He completed his residency in anesthesiology and resuscitation at Hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras in Havana, Cuba, and his residency in internal medicine at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Jamaica, New York.
Erica Corredera, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Erica Corredera is an internal medicine/hospitalist physician who takes care of patients hospitalized at the University of Miami Health System’s UHealth Tower. As a hospitalist, she diagnoses and treats a variety of illnesses, such as heart disease, kidney disease, infections, and pain. She also manages medical conditions related to cancer and the adverse effects of cancer therapy. Dr. Corredera strives to come to a holistic understanding of our patients and their goals for their care, and to develop evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with other members of the multi-disciplinary medical team.
Nia Feaster, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Nia Feaster is originally from a suburb near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She moved to Washington, DC where she completed a six-year BS/MD program at Howard University. Dr. Feaster then completed internal medicine residency at University of Chicago, after which she moved to Florida to become a hospitalist at University of Miami.
Rafael Garces, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Rafael Garces received his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. He also earned a Master of Science in Basic Medical Sciences from the same institution. He completed his residency in internal medicine at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Stephen Haff, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Stephen Haff earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern University and completed his residency at Emory University's Internal Medicine Residency Program. His professional interests focus on enhancing the procedural skills of internal medicine providers and training students and healthcare professionals in Point of Care Ultrasound techniques. At his previous institution, Dr. Haff spearheaded the creation of a hospital medicine procedure team, which delivered safe, efficient, and cost-effective bedside procedures for hospitalized patients. Additionally, he has developed and led courses on Point of Care Ultrasound to educate providers and healthcare trainees on the valuable applications of bedside ultrasound techniques.
Lucas Lages, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Lages is a UMMG Staff Physician for the Department of Medicine at the University of Miami. He completed his medical school training at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine and Internal Medicine training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Roselande Marcellon, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Marcellon is a recent graduate of the Internal Medicine Program at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Health System in Miami, FL. She completed her medical education at Albany Medical College in New York and studied public health at Boston University School of Public Health. She has worked in the non-profit sector of health care and finance. She enjoys mentoring as well as sharing her love for science and the humanities. Her research interests include medical education, public health, cancer, blood disorders, quality improvement, and first generation and low-income experience in medicine.
Taaha Mendha, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Mendha grew up in Miami, Florida where he completed his undergraduate studies at the
returned to South Florida for his Internal Medicine residency. He has engaged in various
community service projects throughout his career, both locally and internationally to provide
medical care to a diverse patient population. His professional interests include quality
improvement, patient safety, clinical research, and transition of care from the inpatient setting to
the outpatient setting. Dr. Mendha has been involved in many research projects and published
many case reports relevant to these topics for more than 10 years.
Hermes Milanes, D.O.

Biography: Dr. Hermes Milanes received his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also earned a Master of Medical Sciences from the University of South Florida. He completed his residency in internal medicine at University Hospitals – Parma Medical Center in Ohio.
Samantha Milanes, D.O.

Biography: Dr. Samantha Milanes is a UMMG Staff Physician in the Department of Medicine at the University of Miami. She completed medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. She trained at Case Western University MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio in Internal Medicine. She has a strong interest in medical education and addiction medicine.
Dipte Modi, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Modi is a UMMG Staff physician in the Department of Medicine at the University of Miami. She graduated in 2013 with a major in biological sciences and chemistry minor at Louisiana state university in Baton Rouge and completed both medical school and residency at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA. She worked as a hospitalist for 3 years post-residency at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. Dr. Modi then moved to Miami, FL and joined the Division of Hospital Medicine at UHealth Miami.

Liana Woodley-Pearson, M.D., MPH

Biography: Dr Woodley-Pearson is originally from New York but has lived throughout the country for her education. Prior to pursuing a career in the medical field, she completed her MPH at The University of Illinois and lived in Chicago where she worked in health policy. She went on to complete her medical studies at the Medical College of Wisconsin and eventually moved to Miami to complete internal medicine residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System. She currently serves as an internal medicine hospitalist and remains passionate about health system management and policy.
Liza Prysyazhnyuk, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Prysyazhnyuk is a dedicated physician who joined the University of Miami after completing her medical education and training in New York. She earned her undergraduate degree from Barnard College of Columbia University, followed by a medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. Dr. Prysyazhnyuk completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell NS/LIJ, where she also achieved certification as a clinician educator and in lifestyle medicine. Her passion for patient education, particularly in lifestyle modifications, is central to her approach to care. Dr. Prysyazhnyuk is thrilled to continue her career in hospital medicine, where she is committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based care and improving patient outcomes.

Michael Rodriguez, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Rodriguez is a Miami native and earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Miami. He traveled to Burlington, VT where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Vermont. He completed residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia. He returned to his hometown in 2024 to join the Division of Hospital Medicine.
Alberto Rojas Arancibia, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Rojas Arancibia attended the Universidad Mayor de San Simon in Bolivia, Colombia. He then went to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center for residency in internal medicine. He completed a fellowship at the New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center Point of Care Ultrasound (PoCUS). Dr. Rojas Arancibia made his way to join the University of Miami Health system as a Hospitalist in the Division of Hospital Medicine.
Allan Ricardo Rubinfeld, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Allan Rubinfeld is a dedicated professional with an expertise in Hospital medicine. He studied medicine in the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico. He did his Internal Medicine residency in Long Brach, New Jersey, and graduated on June 30, 1993.He started his internal medicine practice on August 16, 1993. He came to Miami Florida on July 19th, 2004, and since then he has been working in hospital medicine as a hospitalist. Dr. Rubinfeld joins the hospital medicine program with the University of Miami since January 1st, 2015.

Jonathan Salter, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Jonathan Salter is originally from the greater Boston area and completed his medical education at the Pennsylvania State College of Medicine as a Global Health Scholar. He moved to Miami for his internal medicine residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Health program. He spent an additional year as a chief resident at the Miami VA Hospital focusing on quality improvement and patient safety.
Ankita Saxena, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Ankita Saxena is from New Jersey and completed her internal medicine training at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. After working in New York for a couple of years as an academic hospitalist, she joined the University of Miami in 2021. Her professional interests include treating a broad range of internal medicine conditions, co-managing patients with hematologic malignancies, and teaching medical students and residents.
Emilio G. Volz, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Emilio Volz received his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in emergency and family medicine at Christiana Care Health System, where he also served as chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in emergency ultrasound at Christiana Care Health System.
Gilberto Velazco, M.D.

Biography: Dr. Velazco graduated from the Institute of Medical Sciences in Havana, Cuba with Gold Seal Honors. He completed his medical residency in Internal Medicine at the New York Medical College - Metropolitan Hospital in New York City, where he received the Professionalism Award. Dr. Velazco is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and holds licenses in Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico and is happy to speak to patients in their native language as he is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese. He joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2022 and is currently serving the University of Miami Hospital as a Staff Physician primarily managing leukemia patients in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team.
