Dr. Suarez Zarate is an academic hospitalist at UM. He is also an Associate Program Director for the UM/JHM IM Residency Program, as well as the Hospital Medicine IT Lead. He graduated from medical school in Bogota, Colombia. In 2015 he moved to Boston where he did his postdoc, an MPH in the Global Health Track and worked as a Global Health Research Scientist for 2 years. He completed residency at Boston University, after which he stayed for an additional year as chief medical resident. He then moved to Miami to start his career as an academic hospitalist.

Dr. Suarez Zarate is passionate about clinical reasoning, teach-the-teacher, and curriculum development in GME. He enjoys discussions on evidence-based medicine and health equity.
Research Interests
Dr. Suarez Zarate has an academic interest in the intersection between medical education, health disparities, and inpatient operations, as well as addiction medicine, LGBTQ+ health, and program design and implementation.
