Dr. Janyll Castineira is a Miami native who completed her undergraduate studies at Florida International University. She received a doctorate from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, FL and subsequently completed an Internship, Internal Medicine Residency, and Gastroenterology fellowship at HCA Florida Hospital in Largo, FL. She is board certified by the AOBIM and ABIM in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Prior to joining the University of Miami family, Dr. Castineira practiced general Gastroenterology in a group practice in Largo. She also participated in teaching residents and fellows at HCA Florida Hospital Largo Graduate Medical Education. She is passionate about medical education, having served as an Internal Medicine and Subspecialty core faculty member early in her career, she hopes to incorporate clinical medical education into her practice in the future. Dr. Castineira also served as a core faculty member on the board of Women Physicians in Medicine Committee at her previous institution. She has an interest in general Gastroenterology on a broad-spectrum including offering screening and therapeutic general endoscopic procedures, treating inflammatory bowel disease, functional disorders and addressing women’s health issues as they pertain to Gastroenterology. Dr. Castineira has returned to Miami with her husband and newborn child to be closer to family and her cultural roots. Fabian Emura, M.D.
Fabian Emura is a staff physician of the Digestive Health and Liver Diseases Division at the University of Miami and a full-time advanced endoscopist at Jackson Memorial Hospital. After graduating from Universidad del Valle, he completed a general surgery fellowship at Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Later in Japan, he completed a doctoral program in GI tumor biology at the University of Tsukuba and a 3- year fellowship in interventional GI endoscopy and GI surgery at the National Cancer Center Hospital in Tokyo. Throughout his career, Dr. Emura has been actively involved in clinical investigation related to GI tumors, particularly endoscopic early diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and image-enhanced endoscopy. He is the inventor of Systematic Alphanumeric Coded Endoscopy (SACE) and has pioneered its global implementation and training. Also, Dr Emura pioneered the NBI colon polyp classification, and ESD in Latin America. Since 2006 has introduced and funded an uninterrupted annual gastric cancer screening program in Colombia through the Emura Foundation for Cancer Research benefiting more than 2500 low socio-economical class patients. Dr. Emura received the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Top Reviewer Award in 2012, 2015, 2021 and 2022. Locally, he served as President of the Colombian Society of Endoscopy (2014-2016). Internationally, he served as a member of the international committee of the ASGE (2011-2018), also served as President of the InterAmerican Society of Endoscopy (2014-2016), and lastly, he served as chair of the scientific committee of the 2nd World Congress of Endoscopy, ENDO 2020 for the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) and as the President of the WEO 2020-2022. He is a reviewer for most of the major endoscopy journals and has authored or co-authored more than 80 original articles, books, book chapters, and reviews covering a wide range of digestive disease topics. Dr. Emura is an internationally recognized clinician and educator, and a popular world-class speaker.
