Biography
Dr. Ami Panara Shukla completed her medical education at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System.
Her interest in Helicobacter pylori infection began during fellowship, where she recognized the challenges of treatment failure, antibiotic resistance, and variation in clinical practice. That interest continued to grow during her early years providing clinical care at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she cared for a diverse patient population and observed the significant impact of H. pylori infection on gastrointestinal health and healthcare utilization. She now has a particular interest in the management of refractory H. pylori infection and offers culture-based antibiotic susceptibility testing and individualized treatment strategies, while leading scholarship focused on antimicrobial stewardship, quality improvement, and population health.
Since joining the University of Miami faculty in 2019, Dr. Panara Shukla has built a career integrating clinical care, education, and systems improvement. She has led and mentored projects aimed at improving guideline-concordant care, optimizing diagnostic and therapeutic stewardship, enhancing endoscopy quality, and improving healthcare delivery within large academic and safety-net healthcare systems. These efforts have resulted in multiple national presentations, institutional practice changes, and award-winning quality improvement initiatives.
In 2020, Dr. Panara Shukla joined the inaugural cohort of Longitudinal Clinical Educators (LCEs) in the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s NextGenMD curriculum, helping to shape and implement the program’s longitudinal advising and professional development framework for medical students. As an LCE, she provides continuous advising and mentorship throughout all four years of medical school while facilitating small- and large-group learning experiences across the Medicine as a Profession curriculum. Her primary educational interest is clinical reasoning, with a particular focus on identifying effective strategies to teach, assess, and optimize its development within undergraduate and graduate medical education.
Nationally, Dr. Panara Shukla is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and contributes to multiple ACG committees and educational initiatives. Her service includes participation in the Patient Care Committee and Educational Affairs Committee, development of patient-facing educational materials, creation of continuing medical education content, conference abstract review and leadership activities, and support of initiatives to improve the accessibility and quality of educational and patient resources. She also serves as a reviewer for gastroenterology journals and participates in various educational judging activities. -

She is deeply committed to education and mentorship across the continuum of medical training, working extensively with medical students, residents, and fellows in both classroom and clinical settings. As a Longitudinal Clinical Educator in the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s NextGenMD curriculum, she provides longitudinal advising and professional development mentorship to medical students throughout all four years of training and facilitates ?small groups for the Medicine as a Profession curriculum. ?
