Biography
Clinical interest in the prevention of colorectal cancer (CRC) and heritable cancer syndromes of the gastrointestinal tract. He completed a medical degree at the University of Miami School of Medicine. His postdoctoral training includes an internship, residency in Internal Medicine, and fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Sussman co-manages a multi-disciplinary Gastrointestinal Cancer Prevention Clinic in collaboration with the Genetics Department, including the services of a genetic counselor for patients requiring risk assessment for heritable GI tract cancers. Dr. Sussman is the course coordinator for 2nd year medical school GI teaching, and serves as the medical director for digestive health services. -

Research Interests
Dr. Sussman aims to: 1) improve strategies to identify families with heritable GI cancer syndromes; 2) improve methods to identify and prevent CRC, including underused modalities like fecal immunochemical testing; 3) identify and clarify the role of molecular markers of GI malignancy; and 4) to develop a repository for patients with GI tract neoplasia related to heritable cancer syndromes, early-onset cancer, or HIV. -
