  1. To achieve competency in medical management of patients with various liver diseases including liver transplant candidates and recipients.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of care for patients with acute and chronic liver disease.
  3. Achieve competency in performing liver biopsies. 
  4. Learn the primary evaluation of transplant candidates and participate in selection committees.
  5. Understand indications, contra-indications, complications and interpretation of liver biopsy of native livers and allografts.
  6. Understand the working knowledge of organizational and logistical aspects of liver transplantation, organ procurement and UNOS policies. 
  7. Participate as an observer in three liver procurements and three liver transplantations.
  8. Interact with referring physicians, residents, interns and medical students in consultation, providing education to those outside our specialty.
