- To achieve competency in medical management of patients with various liver diseases including liver transplant candidates and recipients.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of care for patients with acute and chronic liver disease.
- Achieve competency in performing liver biopsies.
- Learn the primary evaluation of transplant candidates and participate in selection committees.
- Understand indications, contra-indications, complications and interpretation of liver biopsy of native livers and allografts.
- Understand the working knowledge of organizational and logistical aspects of liver transplantation, organ procurement and UNOS policies.
- Participate as an observer in three liver procurements and three liver transplantations.
- Interact with referring physicians, residents, interns and medical students in consultation, providing education to those outside our specialty.
