Postdoctoral Fellowships
Postdoctoral research in any of the laboratories at the Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery includes collaborative approaches and interactive training with multiple groups at the University of Miami and other institutions. Postdoctoral training includes participation in seminars, weekly research meetings, journal clubs and retreats and other professional development workshops.
Residency Research Tracks
One of major goals is to provide research training to our residents. As part of research residency training all residents are required to complete a research project, as a requirement for graduation. Each resident during their career presents their research plan and subsequent findings on separate occasions in our weekly scientific conference. In addition they also present their research findings at least once at the Miami Dermatological Society Residents and Fellows day. The latter is competitive in nature and is associated with awards for the top 3 presentation.
In addition we have developed two research tracks for incoming residents:
PhD-Residency Track for MD candidates who would like to pursue PhD in addition to residency in Dermatology. This 4+1+3 year position (PhD training + internship + dermatology residency), for qualified MD applicants, provides the opportunity to combine the required training in Dermatology with earning of PhD degree in PIBS program of the University of Miami.
Residency-Research Track, a 4 year position, for qualified MD/PhD applicants, will combine the required training in Dermatology with additional research time over a 48 month period.
Graduate Students
Research faculty of the Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery participate in all training aspects of the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) as well as in Medical School’s curriculum providing lectures focused on biology of skin and its diseases. In addition, research laboratories provide important hands-on training for medical and graduate students alike. Each student is required to present upon completion of training rotation. Due to multi-disciplinary nature of the research faculty at our Department PhD students may come from a variety of programs, including Molecular and Cell Pharmacology, Human Genetics and Genomics, Cancer Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology, Neuroscience and Physiology and Biophysics.
Undergraduate Students
Research base of the Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery participates in training of undergraduate students. We provide an exciting research experience for undergraduate students in preparation for further training in biomedical sciences.
