A dedicated space to explore the connection between the skin and the nervous system. Skin conditions can impact every field in someone’s life. Reciprocally, skin diseases can be triggered by psychological problems. In our Psychoneurocutaneous Medicine Center, dermatology patients can receive an integrative approach to their skin conditions and referrals to collaborating psychologists and psychiatrists when needed for multidisciplinary care.

Katlein França, M.D., Ph.D.Dr. Katlein França is a dermatologist and Ph.D. in Psychology and has been performing extensive research on Psychoneurocutaneous Medicine. She is past President of the Association for Psychoneurocutaneous Medicine of North America (2016-2017). She is the author and editor of 7 dermatology textbooks, including Geriatric Psychodermatology: Psychocutaneous Disorders in the Elderly (USA 2015), Stress and Skin Disorders (USA 2016), Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling Disorder): Clinical Characteristics, Psychological Interventions, and Emotional Effects (USA 2017), and Advances in Integrative Dermatology (United Kingdom 2019).
