Education and Training

Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences
Over the last ten years, the number of students choosing to pursue careers in psychiatry at the University of Miami has increased nearly six-fold.

Like our students, our faculty come from all over the world to comprise a diverse program rich in opportunity for learning, teaching, and training. The myriad of cultures found in the South Florida region offer unique insight to distinctive populations and health trends, providing an environment to pursue specific interests uncommonly found at other institutions.

We invite you to learn more about education at the Miller School of Medicine and the revolutionary new undergraduate curriculum NextGenMD developed to help prepare and inspires future doctors to more effectively treat individual patients – and begin to transform the entire health care system. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences boasts one of the largest residency programs in the country. We are particularly proud of the fact that each year, between 50-75% of our residents choose to remain at UM for a designated fellowship training program.

Our residents have a variety of options and experiences that allow them to use their knowledge and talents to discover their own niche within a large, supportive community. I am proud to lead this growing and evolving program and continue fulfilling our mission to train the future leaders in psychiatry.
