Message from the Deans of Curriculum

We are excited to present NextGenMD, a revolutionary medical education curriculum carefully crafted to equip medical students with essential tools to excel in their medical careers and shape the future of medicine.

In an era marked by unprecedented innovation and ever-evolving challenges, it is imperative to equip our #MedCanes with a diverse skill set and the ability to advance changes that will lead to improved outcomes for all patients. NextGenMD was developed with this vision in mind, fostering a rich learning environment that prepares medical students to tackle complex clinical scenarios, advance translational research and become leaders who will transform lives and serve the global community.

Our curriculum framework creates an outstanding educational experience, producing graduates who are competitive residency applicants and poised to excel through their lifetime of professional work.

Clinical Skills/Population

Our students train at three health systems, including one of the largest public teaching hospitals in the country, and provide care to a population like no other in the nation. They receive hands-on clinical experience as early as their first year of medical school and because of Miami’s diverse, multicultural population, Miller School students also encounter and tackle medical challenges not found in any other region of the U.S.

Community Outreach

Community outreach is foundational to the Miller School of Medicine experience, and our students provide essential care to underserved populations both locally and across the globe. Through hundreds of community outreach opportunities, students establish meaningful relationships, hone leadership skills and gain hands-on clinical experience while offering vitally important treatment to those in need.

Research Involvement

Research training and experience are fundamental for physicians of the future. We offer an environment of discovery, engaging students in cutting-edge research with preeminent scientists to better prepare them for their future medical careers and, most importantly, advance health for the patients and communities they serve.

Dual Degrees/Scholarly Concentrations

With NextGenMD, every student has a second degree or a scholarly pathway. The Miller School also leads the nation in dual medical degree graduates, offering students numerous options to pursue complementary interests and become leaders who are well-prepared for the ever-evolving field of health care.

I encourage you to explore this website to learn more about the different facets of the curriculum. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email us directly.

We look forward to welcoming you to the #MedCanes family!
