Biography: We study the neurochemical basis of behavior, especially how altered gene expression and neuronal plasticity affect mood and cognition. We focus on how the immune system interacts with the brain in depression, manic-depression (bipolar disorder), and neurodegenerative diseases, such as multiple sclerosis to understand mechanisms that regulate the activity of signal transduction systems and how these are dysfunctional in psychiatric diseases.
