Teaching Interests
As Director of Undergraduate Studies in Biochemistry, my principle responsibilities are to ensure that the BMB undergraduate program provides (i) superior training in nutrition, biochemistry, and molecular biology and (ii) encouragement for self study and research to students seeking a BS degree. In addition, I am developing new initiatives towards the role that biochemistry plays in preclinical medical education.
In Medical Education, I am Longitudinal Director of Biochemistry, where I develop initiatives to effectively deliver the foundational principles in biochemistry that best support medical education and practice.
Research Interests
My training and research interests involve the combined uses of protein engineering, NMR spectroscopy, kinetic, and thermodynamic approaches to determine structures and mechanisms of enzyme action and regulation, particularly involved in cell signaling and metabolic processes. To this extent, I serve as consultant and mentor to students performing dissertation research in the BMB Executive PhD Program. Our unique insight to structural and mechanistic enzymology contributes rational perspective towards discovery of novel experimental therapeutics, especially towards cancer, inflammation, diabetes, and other metabolic disorders.
