I was (until 2019) the Deputy Director, as well as the founding Associate Director for Research of the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Miami VA Healthcare System; one of only 20 such centers in the US, now 25+ years in existence. As part of that position, I oversaw and actively facilitated VA-university research interactions on both the basic science and clinical levels. My extensive experience in managing the research portfolio and the budget for our center over the past 30 years will served me well in my role as PI of a number of VA- and NIH-funded grants. In addition to these administrative duties, I have pursued my research interests through continuous grant support from the VA and/or the NIH for more than 35 years.
