Rehabilitation and prosthesis needs following amputation

Physiatrists are experts in the care of people who have undergone upper and/or lower limb amputations.  Our team is adept in their rehabilitation, management of phantom limb pain, and in the preparation and evaluation for prosthetic devices.  We work with several prosthetists in the community to ensure our patients are fit with the optimal device to maximize their comfort and function.

Orthotic needs

Physiatrists are experts in evaluating patients for orthoses (braces), which may be used to stabilize, assist, or support part of the body.  Orthoses may be made from thin metal, heat moldable plastic, foam or plaster. We can use these braces or splints to assist in improving gait, reduce pain, allow healing, and provide support.  Our team can assist any individual in need of an orthosis, and we have particular expertise in the care of those with a history stroke, brain or spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, polio, or multiple sclerosis.  We collaborate with certified orthotists in the community to ensure our patients are fit with the optimal device to maximize their comfort and function.
