Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

The University of Miami School of Medicine Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation provides comprehensive assessment and treatment services across the lifespan by an expert staff for persons with neurological disorders (such as traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, dementia, stroke, and multiple sclerosis), and chronic illness (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic pain). Treatment services are tailored to suit the individual’s needs based on the strengths and weaknesses identified in the assessment.

What Is Neuropsychology?

Neuropsychology is the scientific study of the functions of mind as it relates to the workings of the brain. Neuropsychological testing is a way of looking at the relationships between the brain and cognitive abilities. These tests are an important part of an overall evaluation, as they provide an objective measure of a person’s cognitive & emotional strengths and weaknesses. Using a set of standardized tests and procedures, neuropsychological assessment provides a comprehensive assessment of cognitive and emotional functioning using standardized tests.

What is Rehabilitation Psychology?

Rehabilitation Psychology is the specialty of clinical psychology focused on achievement of optimal psychological, physical and social functioning in patients and families impacted by a disability or medical condition.
