Our ACGME-accredited Breast and Gynecologic Pathology fellowship is designed to provide advanced in-depth training in Breast and Gynecologic pathology.

The fellow reviews cases from three major institutions, including a multidisciplinary cancer center (Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center), a large tertiary hospital (Jackson Memorial Hospital), and several private hospitals (University of Miami Hospital and other primary care satellite clinics). The fellow works closely alongside the residents from our AP/CP training program and are responsible for all consultation cases, a number of in-house specimens, and for the weekly multidisciplinary clinical-pathological conferences on Breast and GYN Oncology. There are no direct gross responsibilities, but the fellow plays a role in the supervision of residents and guidance of pathologist assistants in complex cases. It is expected that the fellow will participate in national/international meetings and submit at least one paper for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

History

Our fellowship program reflects the unique combination of an NCI-designated cancer center paired with one of the largest county hospitals in the country. There is a rich, learning-friendly environment with an immense variety of neoplastic and non-neoplastic cases.

Curriculum

The fellow rotates 5 months in the Breast service, 5 months in the GYN service, 1-month vacation, and 1 month of elective/research time. There is also the opportunity to rotate through the Breast Imaging service in the Radiology department.

Application

Applicants must be Board eligible or certified in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology or Anatomic Pathology.

Applications should be submitted from July 1 through August 15, two years prior to the academic year. Candidates should submit the CAP standardized application, curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation to the Fellowship Program Director and copy the Fellowship Program Coordinator.
