Division of Laboratory Medicine

The Toxicology Laboratory provides multiple areas of service expertise, including the areas of:

  • Forensic Toxicology
  • Clinical Toxicology
  • Research Toxicology

The laboratory has been providing excellence in toxicology testing for over 30 years. Our service provides comprehensive expert testing and analysis for a large range of drugs and therapeutics in biological samples to support government and law enforcement agencies, medical examiners, physicians, researchers, and others in corporate and legal industries. The laboratory is board certified by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT) and is CLIA certified.

Our services include testing biological samples for volatiles (alcohol)and a wide range of prescribed and illegal drugs including antidepressants, opiates, fentanyl and analogs, cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine. The laboratory operates under defined testing panels for Driving under the Influence (DUI) and victims of suspected drug-facilitated sexual assault crimes to provide comprehensive case analysis.

Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including liquid and gas chromatography coupled with single and tandem mass spectrometry, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and headspace gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. This equipment has allowed for the development of research testing methods including the measurement of alcohol metabolites, gliotoxin, PCBE'S, and Iohexol in biological samples.

The laboratory is directed by Dr. Lisa Reidy. Dr. Reidy is a board-certified toxicologist whose primary focus is forensic and clinical toxicology and the development of analytical methodologies. She currently serves as Chair of the Society of Forensic Toxicologist Drug-Facilitated Crimes Committee and also serves on several other bodies in the field of toxicology. Dr. Reidy has testified in deposition and trials in criminal, civil, and federal cases over 100 times concerning drugs and human performance.
