In partnership with Jackson Memorial Hospital, the program offers 32 categorical categorical positions (nine at each level) as part of its fully accredited four-year residency program. The department values diversity and prides itself in selecting physicians from different social, ethnic, geographic and academic backgrounds. Aside from providing residents with comprehensive training in the discipline of obstetrics and gynecology, the department aims to engage residents in a lifelong commitment to the promotion of women's health care. Our graduates understand the medical, social, economic and cultural contexts of patient care and are poised to be leaders in general and subspecialty practices.
Through lectures, small group conferences, simulation, individual instruction, bedside teaching, operative experience, independent reading, and direct patient care, residents will acquire knowledge and skills in:
- Gynecology
- Gynecologic Oncology
- Obstetrics
- Maternal Fetal Medicine
- Primary and Ambulatory Care
- Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI)
- Minimally Invasive Surgery
- Family Planning
- Ultrasound
- Urogynecology
- Research
- Quality Improvement
The residents are also provided with focused teaching and training in minimally invasive gynecology. Residents complete the online and in-person robotic training and assist with cases at bedside and at the console. Dedicated time for laparoscopy is created for junior residents and they get experience with adnexal surgery and hysterectomies throughout all four years.
